The FED just BANNED FTDs! Could this mean the Squeeze is here?
SR–NSCC–2023–007 requires the OCC to deposit additional collateral/settlement guarantees for trades that will likely result in FTDs. This is to ensure FTDs do NOT happen.
The reason why the FED wants to BAN FTDs is because of the massive risk they pose, if the OCC cannot clear through the NSCC it could potentially result in collateral requirements up to $300bn (reminder, the buy button was turned off on AMC over a $3bn Margin Call).
