The stock market is selling off again and investors are asking the same question every time the headlines scream panic: is this the start of a stock market crash or just another correction? In this video we cut through the noise to explain exactly what’s happening, what triggered the latest selloff, and how bad it could get for stocks. From the S&P 500’s small pullback to the brutal drop in popular AI names like Palantir, the market looks shaky, but the data tells a different story.

Despite the fear of a stock market crash today, the index is down barely more than 1% from its recent all-time high. That’s not exactly the apocalypse. Tech stocks and high-growth companies are taking the biggest hit, especially with news from MIT about disappointing returns on AI investment and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman warning that artificial intelligence could be in a bubble. These warnings have investors spooked, but history shows that panic rarely pays.

Corrections are part of investing. The stock market has fallen at least 10% thirty-six times in the past four decades, but only five of those became full bear markets with losses over 20%. Most corrections end up being short-term buying opportunities. On average, corrections happen once a year, last less than three months, and drop stocks by about 10% to 15%. That’s painful in the moment but far from catastrophic for long-term investors.
