Should you buy (or sell) when the stock market is at record highs?
Currently, the All Ordinaries index is hovering around 8000 points. Which is the highest it's ever been.
Which is cool but it isnât that significant overall given that weâve had all-time highs before and weâll continue to have them in the future. Itâs not actually that rare.
And it also doesnât mean that every company is at an all-time high, just that the index overall is.
It does make some investors nervous though. The thought is that there must be a ceiling where everything is overvalued and the next stock crash is right around the corner.
But how true is that?
In this video, I'll go back in history to see what happened when the stock market hit all-time highs in the past.
Trying to time the market is a fool's game. Time in the stock market is far more important.
Most of the time new highs are followed by new highs.
Investing consistently, whether the price is up or down, and letting the compounding effect of the market do its magic, is the key to investing over the long term.
Happy investing!
