To Payal Jain, money isn’t the most important factor in making her life decisions. Payal Jain, is also an ex-investment banker from Goldman Sachs, currently partnering business functions at boutique investment firm. Here’s how she explains this dichotomy.
Payal was born to a fairly middle-class household in the North-Eastern city of Guwahati. Growing up the influences from her father’s business and business news consumption is where the seeds of an eventual career in finance were planted.
She went on with her life as normal, not making much of these influences, and in fact, her dream college was IIT Bombay. But the seeds of commerce had sprouted the realisation that a degree in commerce was her calling.
She answered the call from Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) and went to Delhi to pursue her bachelor’s. Her internship stint with Barclays while she was at SRCC, strengthened her thesis that a career in finance was her calling. And following it she joined IIM Indore, and from there went on to go into a treasury role at Goldman Sachs, thanks to her stint in treasury at IIM Indore.
Recently, Payal has pivoted from a large investment bank like Goldman Sachs, to boutique investment firm, partnering business functions at Loestro Advisors. Payal shares more from her journey and what she does in her current avatar in the second part of this video.
